Fall Down. Go Boom.
I hit a curb this morning while riding into work and dumped my motorcycle. I’m ok, other then a few minor scrapes and bruises, and the bike is ok for the most part. The mirror and part of the hand brake broke off, and the shifter also got bent a bit, so I have an appointment to take her in for service this afternoon. I’m taking myself in for “service” as well because my arms and shoulders are really sore. I think its just from trying to lift her heavy ass off the ground, but I want to be sure just in case.
My greatest fear so far has been taking a turn too wide or too close and running into a curb, so I can’t help but wonder if that subconsciously played a part in what happened. It was a STUPID mistake… I’ve driven well in much worse conditions and on much more challenging roads. I’m not sure why it happened, I’m just glad there was no major damage to myself or the bike.
The other drivers on the road were very kind. One gentleman stopped and helped me pick her up (did I mention she’s HEAVY) and about 4 other drivers stopped or slowed down to ask if I was ok. Another older man who was walking down the road also stopped and talked to me for a bit. It was really great to see so many concerned people take a moment of their day to check on the well-being of a complete stranger. Maybe we’re not as “alone” in this world as I sometimes think we are. People do care about each other for the most part… and it’s good to be reminded of that sometimes.
